HRLA and BIICL are pleased to invite you to a joint event on diplomacy and human rights. Panel members will explore how human rights protections can be undermined by a state’s desire to preserve friendly relations with other states. This tension will be examined with regard to the situation of British nationals detained overseas, in particular the high-profile cases of Nazanin Zaghari-Ratcliffe (detained in Iran) and Andy Tsege (previously detained in Ethiopia). The discussion will be followed by a Q & A session and networking.

Speakers

Alison Macdonald QC (Matrix Chambers)

Chris Esdaile (REDRESS)

Richard Ratcliffe (Free Nazanin Campaign)
