Justice Edwin Cameron has received international acclaim for his work as a prominent human rights lawyer, judge and humanitarian in South Africa. Nelson Mandela calls him ‘one of South Africa's new heroes' and in 2002 the Bar of England and Wales presented Justice Cameron with a special award for his ‘contribution to international jurisprudence and the protection of human rights'. During his notable career Justice Cameron has successfully defended the human rights of some of the most vulnerable communities in South Africa and has been instrumental in the campaign for gay and lesbian equality and to protect the rights of people living with HIV and AIDS. Witness to AIDS, which addresses Justice Cameron's personal experience of living with HIV, as well as his quest for adequate responses to the HIV and AIDS epidemic in South Africa , was published in 2005 to excellent reviews.
