Corporate Legal Accountability announcement
The Business & Human Rights Resource Centre is pleased to announce the launch of a Corporate Legal Accountability Project. This project will create an online information hub focused on lawsuits brought against companies for human rights abuses. Our aim is two-fold: to create a resource that is useful to both lawyers and non-lawyers, and to draw greater international attention to the important work being done by advocates to promote corporate accountability.
As you may already know, our website has a section for “Lawsuits: Selected cases” that now covers 27 lawsuits, including cases brought under the Alien Tort Claims Act in US courts. A number of these selected cases have summary profiles (e.g. Unocal and Bhopal). Over the coming two years, we intend to add 57 lawsuits to the “Selected cases” section from all regions of the world. All 84 cases will have summary profiles that we will endeavour to keep up-to-date.
Attached is a short document describing the Corporate Legal Accountability Project in greater detail. This project is made possible by a grant from JEHT Foundation.
We look forward to keeping in touch with you during the project. If you have any suggestions about cases we should profile or lawyers we should contact, please let us know. We would also welcome any ideas you might have on how this project could be made useful to your own corporate accountability work. Please contact:
